Brace Face

Do you remember "Jaws" from the James Bond film "Moonraker?" I think Ryan looks like his son now. Yes, our poor little guy now has a mouth full of metal. He did not take it very well when they were first put on, but he is getting used to them and thinks they are kind of cool now. We didn't get the cute young guy putting them on, we got his father. When they were first going on, Ryan screamed at the orthodontist. Then later, he pulled one of the big brackets off while we were at the pool, such that we all had to go back to the orthodontist while still wet and in bathing suits. Then he made such a fuss that the orthodontist couldn't get part of the braces back on....it was a traumatic day for everyone. But the orthodontist swears it will all be worth it in the long run.....as long as we see his son the next time, haha.

Trip Young's Dairy

The kids and I (Misty) decided that we wanted some good ice cream. So we just jumped into the van and went to Young's Dairy. Jessica came out of her shell; she petted some "BIG" cows and feed the goats. Ethan was not so sure about getting that close to the cows, but he liked feed, or teasing, the goats. June 7th

Chris's Project

This is the picture from the Denman expo at the RPAC in Columbus. To quote Christopher it was a "college science fair." It was way beyond us, in most instances. It was the graduate research projects for the honors students. He didn't realize until he got there how impressive it was. He even admitted that maybe he was a little underdressed. He did fine with the judging, the paper is now done and he actually graduates on Sunday with honors!!!--starts to work on Monday for ODOT!!! YEA!!!

Flowers and Boys and A Giraffe Named Sophie

I have been having fun with my camera again. My Knockout Roses are in full bloom (or at least they were before the storm came through and blew all the petals off.) I replanted my flower boxes and things are looking pretty nice. Ryan and Liam were happy to model for me. I think Liam may have a real career in the modeling biz...he can sure make some cute faces.
Sophie is rubber chew toy that is apparently all the rage in France. A friend of mine told me about them and I got one as a baby gift for another friend. Of course Owen wanted one too, just to test it out before we gave one to a new baby.

An Exciting Day

Today was the last day of school for us....hooray, I'll get to sleep in an extra 20 minutes or so each morning for a while. Ryan got his report card. He passed to go to third grade, but still has a lot of trouble paying attention.
Our other excitement was Ryan's 2 hour appointment at the orthodontist. His name is Dr. Sam King...called Dr. Sam by the kids, and there were a lot of them there. Ryan got pictures taken of his teeth, x-rays, and Dr. Sam looked at him for a long time. He was of the opinion that Ryan's teeth were crowded and that was only going to get worse as more "adult" teeth came in. He recommended we put Ryan in braces right away (which is what our dentist thought any orhtodontist would say) to get everything in line at an early age. My understanding was that if we were able to get the new teeth to come in and line up, Ryan wouldn't need braces in the teenage years. That would make dating easier....not that I plan to let him date. Anyway, the orthodontist was very nice (Both Ryan's dentist and Gina, my neighbor recommended him.) and kind of cute (That is his picture.) so I figured what the heck. He got molds of his mouth made today, spacers put in, and he goes on Monday to get the first part of his braces done. He did not seem so worried about the pain as that he would not be able to chew gum or eat sticky stuff. So, after his visit, we went to Krogers and got him some snack he was allowed to eat.
More on this story Monday......
